Providing food to the needy people
The Food and Agriculture Organisation(FAO) estimates that there are 195.6 million undernourished people in our country. Interestingly, this number is almost 14.8% of the total population. Additionally, more than half of women of the reproductive age between 15 and 49 suffer from anaemia.
The report further states that 38.4% of all children under the age of five are too short for their age while a further 21% have wasting, which means that they are extremely underweight in relation to their height. This translates into real risks, as children suffering from malnourishment are more likely to die from common ailments such as diarrhoea, malaria and pneumonia.
India is ranked 100 out of a total of 119 countries on the Global Hunger Index, calculated on basis of three major parameters - the extent of stunting and wasting in children under the age of 5, mortality rates for children under the age of 5 and finally the percentage of malnourished people in the whole population.
Food4all is Karna’s Foundation initiative to provide for the emerging needs of these at-risk groups by providing them food in Gurgaon, Sitamarhi as well as Muzaffarpur, with a special focus on children from poor families. Our fight here is against hunger, and we hope we emerge victorious.
